Freedom to Give
Last night at youth group, we talked about how being a Christian can be restrictive because we can’t do anything we want. We have to do what the Bible tells us to do, instead of just following the crowd or making our own decisions. It’s not always easy to be a Christian; in fact, sometimes it is really hard. Its not easy when all your friends do one thing, but you do another. It is really hard to go against the grain, especially when all of your friends are doing something. It could be social suicide.
But we are not controlled by the world’s standards, we are controlled by the love of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:14-15). When we believe in Jesus, we are controlled by his love. This means that we are actually free! Because Jesus died for us, we can live our lives for him and not worry about what other people say about us. We don’t even have to worry about what other people do to us. They can make fun of us as much as they want, but we know that it doesn’t matter. It still hurts and it makes life hard, but with Christ in control of our lives we can handle it.
The Bible says that Jesus controls our lives because he died for us. Now we can die for him. That means that we can give our lives completely over to him! How do we do that? The easiest way is to give what we have over to him, and we can start with our time. We can tutor other kids who are having a hard time in school. We can mentor those who are younger than us. We can give up a Saturday to serve others through an Agape service project. We can give up a week or two in the summer to go on a mission trip.
What ways can you think of that you can give your life to Jesus?
