Being Thankful

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade—kept in heaven for you! 1 Peter 1:3-4

I read these verse on Thanksgiving morning as Elliot was being a fussy-butt, waking up early on a holiday and making mommy and daddy a little annoyed. I knew that I didn’t want to start of a holiday where we celebrate giving thanks by being in a sour mood. As He typically does, God changed my mood by reminding me of what is really important: the gospel.
This Thanksgiving, as I think about the things that I have been thankful for, I can’t help but remember the thing that I am ultimately thankful for: the mercy of God in my life, that he would save a lowly sinner such as myself. I am looking forward to that inheritance that is waiting for those who have faith in Christ–an inheritance that can’t perish, spoil, or fade!
What are you thankful for this year?

Our God is Mighty to Save

For those of you who were able to make it to the youth room last night — I counted the chairs after everyone had left and there were over 65! — you heard an amazing story of how God is working in the life of Will Neuhaus.
Will’s path in life has led him through addictions, drugs, prison, and now to Christ. it has not been an easy journey to say the least, and like all of us, his journey is not over. Life for everyone on this side of heaven is still a struggle. But we have a God who is mighty to save, and he is able to rescue us out of the pits that we dig ourselves into because of what he did through Jesus. Thank you Will for sharing your story with us and reminding us that it is not about us, but its all about Jesus.
Will made it very clear that if anyone would like to talk to him, he would make himself available–whether you are a student, a parent, or just someone who wants to talk to him. Here is Will’s contact information (for his email address, change the "at" and “dot” to "@" when “.” you copy it…this is to prevent Will getting spammed.)

Email:  neuhauswilliam “at” yahoo “dot” com

Also, if you are interested in a recording of Will’s testimony, you can click here and download it, or you can email me and I will burn you CD for $1.  The link is only active for 7 days, so if it doesn’t work, just email me and I’ll get it to you.

Tools for the Tall Task of Training Teens

This past Saturday, we had a great Parent’s Meeting with Brad Hambrick, the Executive Director of Crossroads Counseling in Augusta, GA.. For those of you who couldn’t make it, the audio of can be heard or downloaded by clicking on this link (you will be directed to another website). If that link doesn’t work or if you simply would like a CD with the recording on it, please let me know.
As always, Brad did a great job of encouraging and equipping parents on how to engage and disciple their teenagers. Contrary to popular opinion, a good relationship with your teen is not beyond our grasp. It does take a lot of work and prioritizing of our time and energy, but that is what God has called us to as parents. This talk is not just for parents of teenagers. Discipling our children starts long before they are teens. If you are about to be a parent or if you have little ones at home, please take the time to listen. It will be extremely beneficial!
I want to emphasize how I view my role as a youth pastor. I see myself as a tool to assist parents in their raising of their children. I am honored to be able to come alongside parents and assist them in the sacred calling of raising children to know and fear the Lord. Please don’t hesitate to use me in any way!
